Year 5
Welcome to the Year 5 page of the Honilands Website. Below you will find information about what Year 5 will be learning throughout the year, along with images and details on some of our learning activities.
Autumn Term
Last term, Year 5 explored a new and exciting style of writing through the verse novel Other Words for Home. This was an inspiring experience that allowed us to deepen our understanding of poetry in a meaningful way. We learnt about a range of poetry techniques and turned these into expressive performances. The class worked collaboratively to rehearse and refine their ideas, enjoying every step of the creative process. We then transformed the poetry into a script, including extracts from the verse novel, which we proudly performed as a class assembly for our parents.

Spring Term
Year 5 had a busy and exciting spring term filled with creativity, exploration and new experiences! The children explored art in a hands-on way by creating their own sculptures inspired by Alberto Giacometti, using Modroc to build and refine their unique figures. In PE, they developed confidence and skills during their swimming lessons at St Ignatius School, showing great determination and progress. Our celebrations for Mars Day sparked pupils' imaginations as they designed their own rockets to take into outer space, linking science with creativity in a truly memorable way. A highlight of the term was our special trip to the Royal Festival Hall, where we enjoyed an inspiring concert by the Philharmonia Orchestra, bringing music to life in a spectacular setting. It has been a fantastic term full of learning and memorable experiences!
