Nursery
Welcome to the Nursery page of the Honilands Website.
Year 1: 2-Year-Olds
Autumn Term:
Our youngest children explored farm animals through the story "Let’s Go to the Farm" by Caryl Hart. They learnt to recognise various animals, their names, and the sounds they make. The kids enjoyed 'feeding' the animals and observing their features, and they even had the exciting opportunity to ‘milk a cow,’ which sparked their curiosity.

During the festive season, the children learnt about Christmas and its significance to some families. We read "Dear Santa" by Roald Dahl, enhancing their listening and communication skills. They also enjoyed making Christmas trees with spaghetti and crafting Santa’s beard, which helped develop their fine motor skills and creativity.

Spring Term
This term, the children enjoyed learning about nature through stories like Jasper’s Beanstalk, Spot’s First Nature Book, Maisy Goes on a Nature Walk, and The Very Hungry Caterpillar’s Bug Hunt. They participated in bug hunts using magnifying glasses and planted their own beans and Mother's Day flowers to take home. They even engaged in fun activities like feeding “The Very Hungry Caterpillar” insects with tweezers and creating insect crafts, such as apple print ladybird pictures.

Year 2: 3-Year-Olds
Autumn Term
This term, we explored the book "Going on a Bear Hunt." The children created their own story maps to recall the events from the story. We also made bear masks and binoculars, using a variety of craft materials to decorate them beautifully. Once our binoculars were ready, we took them outside for a big adventure - a Bear Hunt in our outdoor area! The children had so much fun participating in the familiar story as they moved through the "long, wavy grass," the "thick, oozy mud," and the "deep, dark forest," just like in the book. Throughout the activity, they demonstrated fantastic language skills, imagination, and teamwork.

Below you will find information about what children in Nursery will be learning throughout the year.
