Parental Involvement
At Honilands, we welcome and actively encourage parents and carers to be fully involved in their child’s education and care. We believe that strong partnerships between home and school help children thrive, and we provide a wide range of opportunities for families to participate, contribute, and stay informed.
These include:
- Information evenings for parents before children start school, to provide guidance and answer questions
- Individual School visits to discuss children’s interests, needs, and transition into school
- Maintaining an open-door approach, ensuring parents can speak to staff at any time about concerns or questions
- Parent Consultations where progress and next steps are shared
- Contributing to Tapestry, by adding comments or uploading observations from home
- Stay and Play sessions, Parent Cafés, Family Fun days, and other school events to engage families
- Supporting phonics and reading at home, including uploading weekly videos linked to the children’s phonics learning.
- Sharing core book learning on Tapestry so parents can discuss stories and language with their children
- Parent phonics sessions, demonstrating how phonics is taught and how parents can help at home
- Drawing on community links to enrich children’s experiences through outings and visits from local community members
- We value parents as partners in learning, recognising that their contributions, insights and active engagement are essential to their child’s success and enjoyment at school.

Observations of children’s achievements are recorded in their own personal, online Learning Journal using Tapestry. Tapestry is a secure online platform that enables staff to record photographs, observations, and comments aligned with the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) curriculum, building a detailed picture of each child’s learning and development during their time with us.
Parents and carers receive notifications when new observations are added to their child’s journal. They are actively encouraged to contribute by adding comments and uploading their own observations, helping us understand what children can do at home and at school.
Tapestry also supports strong home–school links by sharing home learning activities and key information through the platform.
