Year 2
Welcome to the Year 2 page of the Honilands Website.
Autumn Term
In D&T this term, Year 2 pupils designed and created their own fire engines. They spent several weeks exploring the different parts of a fire engine, identifying what each part is used for, and carefully planning their designs. Before building, the children selected the materials they wanted to use and explained why they were suitable for specific features. For example, many chose chopsticks to create ladders and pipe cleaners to represent hoses. The children used a wide range of materials and tools to bring their ideas to life, including using a hot glue gun with adult support. Throughout the project, they showed fantastic creativity, problem-solving skills, and independence. The finished fire engines are a wonderful reflection of their hard work, thoughtful planning, and imaginative designs. This tied in really well with their history learning of the Great Fire of London, where they also looked at fire engines then and compared them to now. They were set a homework challenge to create a 3D model of a house during the fire, a fact file or a diary entry. Year 2 had a super busy and creative term! Rather than say too much, take a look at their amazing creations!

Spring Term
In Year 2, we explored puppets in our Design and Technology lessons. The children enjoyed investigating different types of puppets and discussing their construction. They then designed their own glove puppets, thoughtfully considering their appearance and materials. Before making their puppets, the children practised essential sewing skills, which they applied while creating their final products. They worked hard to follow their designs, using tools and materials such as needles, thread, scissors, glue, and felt. Overall, the children had a great time during this project and were proud of their finished puppets.
